21 months and rockin’ her moccasins… small style
Lily turned 21 months old on sunday.
Seriously, I cannot believe she will be 2 years old in 3 months.
She is quite the busy and talkative little chick these days. (Will and I are in constant disbelief of all the words she says daily both in English and Portuguese)
Aside from all the words she knows, she is starting to put 4 and more words together in order to create sentences.
She will say things like:
“mommy. sit. book. reading” (mommy let’s read a book)
“piu piu. wings. fly” (birds fly with wings)
She has quite the Portenglish vocabulary going on. lol
She knows practically all the colors now and compares them to her favorite Sesame Street characters.
She will say:
“pink. purple. Abby”
“orange. Ernie”
“lellow. Bert”
“brown. Snuffy”
“Elmo.” (red)
“gueen. Oscas”
She continues to love books the most but also really enjoys her crayons, markers and coloring books.
We think she’s a keeper. 😉
As always linking to Morgan, the hostess of Small Style.

Darling mocks! I love them!
So, speaking of multi-lingual babies: Stella is being brought up in a multi-lingual environment (English-speaking Muma, Swiss-German Papi, Japanese friends). Did you notice any delay in the onset of language milestones? Do you employ any strategies to encourage her to talk or otherwise engage in the non-dominant language?

@Erica,
We did notice a bit of a delay but now she has excelled! She speaks a lot more than some of her only English speaking friends. You have inspired me to write a post about it for tomorrow because I find it so challenging since I am the only one speaking portuguese to Lily.

Cool! I’ll come back tomorrow to read what you’ve written. Obvs it’s a subject close to my heart. Maybe I’ll write a lil something about it as well & do a bit of research – I wonder how to best encourage Stella’s Swiss-German, since she doesn’t get much input from anyone other than her father, who works crazy long hours.

They grow way to fast! She is a doll as always. How do you make sure to speak both languages to her? Does she confuse words? We are a bilingual home as well!!

Claudia…seriously you must stop this cuteness with Lily. I love all her little outfits and so happy to know that she loves to learn. When my Lily was your Lily’s age I would write the name of a word I wanted her to learn in an index card and tape it to the object…Like for example (Sofa) tape it and sound it out with her, tell her each letter of the word and also in Portuguese. Sure my house looked really messy, but my baby was learning and that’s all that mattered 🙂

I feel like a bad mom … my girls only speak English! 🙁 Are they going to feel left behind because they only speak one language? What should I do? … sos!

@Debbie,
you are anything BUT a bad mom!! Lily only speaks another language because i’m portuguese. i guess if you want them to learn another language, you can get some videos?

Oh Lily, you are such a doll! Finley is doing so many of the same things (minus the Portuguese) and their so close in age….I wish we lived closer, so they could have a playdate. How fun would that be? Oh, and I LOOOVE the moccs!
