when we asked Lily what she would like for her birthday, one of the things she requested was a “pink bed”
ugh, i thought. something else pink
but, you know… she is our daughter and i have had to surrender to pink
so, i started my search for a wrought iron bed
the first one i thought of right away was this ikea bed we had seen a few times while there
the design and price were both on point so it was a good option once we painted it pink
i kept searching online though
craigslist. nothing
ebay. nothing
i then googled “pink wrought iron bed”
scary right?
one of the first things that came up was walmart
yup. walmart
could my search be over?
was it really that easy?
yup. it was
we ordered the bed and a mattress and within a week everything was at our door
painless
once the bed and mattress were ordered, i began thinking about bedding and trimmings that would make the bed even more of a bed but not too princess pink like
i searched through target, macy’s, garnet hill, pottery barn kids, dwell… i didn’t see anything that really inspired me
coincidentally enough, i received an email from bhoom shanti (a local store near us) advertising their 50%off sale
the following day i sent Lily off to school and i went to bhoom shanti
having been there a couple of times before, i knew i would find something. and i was right
(after all, between indian textiles and danish mid century furniture is where i like to be)
there was so much (like crazy much) to choose from at bhoom shanti but after almost 3 hours of being there and checking over all of my options, i walked out with a bed cover and an elephant trim
elephant trim- bhoom shanti. original tree art- bought at lincoln rd vintage market (way before Lily was born)
elephant mobile- bhoom shanti (from a previous trip). miscellaneous stuffed animals- gifted. sloth pillow- uo
tree of life handmade bed cover- bhoom shanti. plain sheet set underneath- target. knitted doll- handmade and gifted by avo Hayes when Lily was one
fish mobile- gifted by avo Hayes when Lily was a baby. embroidered vintage pillows- gifted by my dear friend Julia
we had everything hidden for almost one month
the night before Lily turned three, we moved her crib into our room and there is where she slept
while she was asleep, Will drove to party city and picked up balloons
we put together her bed with all the works on it and when she woke up in the morning and walked into her room…
Lily’s face. priceless
@Darren,
right? lol like “what the…” lol
Best parents ever.
@Sara,
