a garden update
there hasn’t been much going on in the garden lately
there has been lots of rain and it is getting really hot
so, today i would like to share a little bit of the front yard with you
a place i often struggle with because again this is a rental and so there is only so much we can/will do
joining the lovely Annie at mammasaurus for how does your garden grow
do you remember this orchid from last week?
i thought the orchids were going to be white but to my surprise they are yellow
now, i am going to go on a little rant about our avocado tree…
how could i go on an avocado tree rant?
because not only are they just big watery tasteless florida avocados but tuesday morning when i went to check on the yard, i saw that the other orchid that was open along with two unopened buds were on the ground due to a fallen avocado
our avocado tree is an orchid killer
so, i moved the orchid to the front porch
which actually works out quite nicely since i get to see another orchid now when i am at the kitchen sink
and you know, the more orchids i see the better
the front porch is a small space where we often hang out with friends when it is not too buggy
it is where the yellow orchid now resides (and hopefully will be happy) along with some other potted plants and succulents
we will be going to west virginia for two weeks tomorrow so for the next two weeks i will be showing you my inlaws beautiful gardens

Attack of the killer avacado trees! What a shame but at least it meant that the orchid ended up where you can see it from the kitchen sink.
I love your little gnome – so cute! Your home always looks so happy, that sunny yellow is gorgeous x
Thank you for joining in again π

YELLOW! Such happiness! Apart from the avocado tree! Chop it down by ‘accident’. (I didn’t say that!) x
Claudia

@Lou,
i want to chop it down but 1- this is a rental so really it is not our tree and 2- it is a really old and tall tree… xo

Claudia
June 13, 2013 @ 11:19 am
@Helen,
the sunshine here definitely gives us amazing plants. it also gives me major headaches and long periods of laziness because it gets way too hot for way too long

Wow, how I wish we could be complaining about the heat here in the UK! I love your orchid, so unusual to see a yellow one – I’m no good at keeping them though, hope you have better luck π

@Suzanne,
i complain about the heat all the time because it’s year long lol. i used to be intimidated by orchids but through the years i have learned to care for them and they are one of my favorites

I’m loving those huge leaves and the yellow wall pop of colour. Most of your outdoor plants can only be indoor plants here in the UK. Fabulous! Have fun in West Virgina:-) Now I have the “Mountain Momma” song in my head.

@Katie,
with warm weather pretty much all year long plants do really well outside here in miami. i guess that’s a plus to the heat. now i have the song in my head. lol

The yellow Orchid is just stunning. Is that an Aloe plant on your front porch? I’d love of those too along with your limes!
Claudia

@Nichola,
thank you. yes, it is an aloe plant. i have two very old ones (that one is an off spring) and then i have a whole jungle on the side of the house. can you have them inside the house?

Wow, the plants that grow in the warm climate of Miami are wonderful. The first pic (is that a musa basjoo?) looks so lush. The orchid is beautiful and growing outside.. I so wish we had the same climate in the UK
Claudia
June 13, 2013 @ 7:54 pm
@Helvetia,
it is not a musa basjoo, it is some kind of fan palm. i am sure you tire of cold and rain but let me tell you that heat and humidity almost the whole year is not so great. the grass is always greener right? happy weekend!

Although the avocado tree did attack your orchid I would love to live in a climate where I could grow an avocado tree! Love looking at your tropical pictures. Popping over from the lovely Mammasaurus linky
