a garden update. asheville, nc
i’ve just returned home from a birthday party in our neighborhood
a four year old birthday party
one where all the neighborhood kids of all ages ran around and played like they always do whenever they get together
we are leaving miami in fourteen days
it’s one thing to say goodbye to a place
it’s another thing to say goodbye to its people
i hope that we will be as lucky in asheville as we have been here in miami when it comes to friends
because we have had the best
and as bitter sweet as it is, we are still one hundred percent sure and excited/anxious about our decision to move
anyway, we have been keeping tabs on the weather up north and i am sure that when we get there, everything will look quite differnt because… fall is coming!
temperatures have dropped and the leaves are already changing
i cannot wait!
it’s been over a decade since i have had fall
joining Annie with how does your garden grow?
i love morning glories

your nature will look similar to ours! that’s right, leaves are turning into yellow, some of them into light red, and already falling… it’s hard to say goodbye to your friends, but when you don’t have a place where you belong to, you end up getting used to say goodbye to them and hello to new friends.

@Mirari,
i feel the most guilty about taking Lily away from her best friend Savannah. but such is life right? people move….

Such a time of upheaval and excitement and guilt and sadness, pretty much all the emotions going on for you right now. Autumn is about to happen here too, the leaves are just starting to turn colour, it will be nice to both experience it together even though far apart.
Such lovely photos as always Claudia – the blue and reds stole my heart this week!
Thank you for joining in and hang in there x

No matter where you are your photos are stunning. Just realised we went to Asheville a couple of years ago. I insisted on driving through the Blue Ridge mountains on our route south from the Hamptons to Miami. We spent just one night but I still remember all the interesting architecture as we wandered the town centre on foot before dinner. (And of course toured Biltmore the next day)

Hello friend!
I understand how you feel, when we moved from LA to Mexico it was a weird feeling, I was excited and happy but at the same time sad and confused, donΓΒ΄t worry about Lily, kids are the best friends and iΓΒ΄m sure she will be in contact with Savannah.
Good luck with the move an please post lots of pics!

Your morning glories are looking much better than mine, in my garden they have definitely had their day, I love them too though. Can’t wait to see what garden loveliness you bring us from your new home π

Borage blue is one of my favourite colours, it’s so rich and bright. I bought a borage plant earlier in the year and it turned out to be white, shame. Best of luck with your move. I’m excited for you and hope you meet some lovely people. First Fall in a decade? Enjoy π

Gosh how things are going to change for you! I can never get my head around the geography of the US and how large it is. When I was a child I had so many people move into the area and then move on again but you always learn to adapt.

@Ness,
i’ve been one of those people who always moved around a lot. with my parents and on my own. miami has been home for over ten years. the longest i’ve ever lived anywhere.

I too love Morning Glories but I will have to wait until next year to see any more now. Autumn (Fall) is well and truly here although daytime temperatures are still holding up on some days and there is still summer veg to harvest in the polytunnel. Good luck with your move – and enjoy the changing seasons!

oh my word how did that comment get there? it was meant for another page. My comment for your post should’ve read like this:
I hope the transition goes smoothly for you, we moved 2 kids aged 11 and 15 from the UK to South Africa with only 4 months notice and it was the best move we ever made, sadly our youngest now 16 had to return to the UK 2 years ago for his education. It’s been over a year now since we had any weather other than summer, even our uk trips have hailed glorious weather and I’m off to South Africa next month for another summer in the southern hemisphere, returning to winter in Dubai which is still hotter and drier than the uk summer, enjoy fall.

@chickenruby,
thank you! i have not had fall in over a decade and am so looking forward to cooler weather. it’s the end of september here in miami and most days it’s still high 80’s, low 90’s. enjoy your travels!
