when i first moved to miami in two thousand and one, i lived one block away from the beach
going to the beach those days meant putting on a suit, grabbing a towel, flip flops and walking across the street
in two thousand and six, with the financial help of my parents, i bought a condo on the opposite side of southbeach from where i had been living
although the beach was a bit farther away, i could still walk there within fifteen minutes
when we moved to the yellow house almost four years ago, we could no longer walk to the beach
and although it felt strange to not have the ocean right there, it was still only a short car ride away (depending which beach we decided on)
and now here we are
in north carolina
at least four good hours from the beach
this is the farthest i have lived from the ocean
ever
making the decision to move here was hard
on many levels
for me, being this far away from the ocean was never a plus when i thought about moving here
and although i am happy where we are, i am not happy with how far we are from a beach
being portuguese i strongly believe in the power of two things
the power of the ocean’s salt water and olive oil
olive oil i can still easily get
the salt water, not so much
my skin was thankful when we went to miami and got to go to the beach a few times
and so was my heart
and my soul….
ps- picture overload but you know, beach and ocean. who knows when we will get both again

olive oil’s important!!! but i feel the same way. we cannot think about moving by the sea because the north of this country’s completely different, different laws, different language and different laws. and the most cruel thing’s that the north sea doesn’t smell like salty water. it doesn’t smell at all.

@Mirari,
The ocean in miami doesn’t really smell like anything either on most days. Not like in Portugal or California
