#mycaliforniadreamin2020trip

on october seventh i left asheville before six in the morning, drove an hour to greenville and flew out to los angeles

it had been three years since i had been out there

the last time i was there was for my birthday

this time around, i went for my dear Connie’s fiftieth birthday

it was a mellow covid/quarantine trip where we mostly just hung out at her house/yard/neighborhood

we went on a few drives, got to see and walk around griffith observatory, out to eat…

there was no shopping or a trip to go see the ocean like previous trips but i did get to go on long beautiful walks every morning

los angeles looked the worst i have ever seen it look

so many places still closed and boarded up, more homeless people living in tents and under tarps than i have ever seen anywhere else, people in corners completely out on drugs…. reminded me of nyc in the eighties before giuliani cleaned it up

it felt like the apocalypse

for the first time since moving to asheville, it felt good to return home from a trip somewhere

no desire to return any time too soon….

first lunch upon arrival. delicious mexican food

a beautiful california sunset with palm trees in the distance

first morning in silverlake

lots of morning walks

birthday party day

leftover birthday cake. probably the best i ever had

griffith observatory

until next time los angeles
