“a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2020”
Lilian
what a year she has had
remote learning, a separation, a move, splitting time between William and i, an unfortunate christmas…
and she has risen above it all
she’s pretty fucking amazing!
well, this concludes another year of the fifty two project
cheers!
happy new year friends!
may 2021 be everything that 2020 was not
in the best of ways
sunny winter walks
west virginia. our holiday there was cut short due to unfortunate events that i choose to no longer talk about
a happy and sweet new year’s eve day moment before it turned into shitmas eve
we drove six hours through snow blizzards on christmas day to find asheville covered in a white blanket
on the 26th we gifted ourselves the christmas we deserved and the one we should have stayed in asheville for to begin with
William and Lilian gifted me some beautiful hanging planters
sister cousins 2020
the morning i turned 48 and had the loneliest and saddest birthday ever
10 month young me in luanda angola
celebrated my birthday the following day with a friend on her front porch with a burger and some white wine. perfect
last wednesday of 2020
took me a while to bounce back after the christmas trauma but a lot has to be said for what getting “dressed” does for the esteem
last morning of 2020
despite the many things that 2020 was (and was not), it was indeed my most creative year yet
new year’s eve. happy 2021!
first day of a new year with new art that i treated myself with for christmas/birthday
“a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2020”
Lilian
in her cousin Genevieve’s bed on christmas day after the most horrible christmas eve
somehow by a christmas miracle, we pulled christmas morning off
i’m headed to west virginia for christmas so i thought i’d come here and round up the week
i can’t believe christmas is in two days, my birthday in five and new years in eight
unlike most previous years, i don’t have big plans for my birthday or new years
the thought of having no plans makes me a bit sad and nostalgic for previous years but under covid, i am too uninspired or motivated to plan or do anything
and the point is to remain safe anyway right?
happy holidays friends!
stay safe
my orchids have been reblooming just in time to make winter more bearable
thankful for pink flowers. and banana bread
a sunday outing
a painted jean jacket
december 21 2020. winter solstice. the shortest day of the longest fucking year of our lives
excited to go see and be with this girl again
distant miami memories. becoming more distant with every passing year
too late for 2020 but just in time for the holidays

this past friday we finally heard from the number one choice private middle school Lilian applied to
she has been accepted and we are all so excited and proud of her
they are running such a different program over there and i’m so happy that she is going to be part of that
they only accept 24 girls per grade per year
what an honor!
so proud of her
happy monday friends
i cannot believe christmas, my birthday and the end of this year are all around the corner
today is Lilian’s last day of school until monday january 4th of 2021
today she leaves with William to west virginia until the 26th
she’s excited to see family and snow
lots of snow (think they have gotten over thirty inches this week?)
i look forward to seeing her on the 23rd when i drive to west virginia to spend christmas there all together like we have for most of Lilian’s life
happy friday friends
dark and gloomy mornings
breakfast adventures
rainbow maker making. lots of them in the shop
my most productive year as far as my art is concerned
post nutcracker celebration
a recent purchase by a local artist. it really spoke to me
slow moving sundays. our favorites
cold but sunny mornings
december. my birthday month. the one that brings out the most feelings. always
ballet view from the kitchen
i miss swimming. i miss many things these days
art is still the one thing Lilian occupies herself with the most when having “down time”
and lately whether at home or at her tuesday art classes, she has created some amazing things
happy ARTsy wednesday friends

Lilian
kudos to this girl and her ballet school for keeping things going per usual schedule despite this pandemic we have been living in since march
zoom classes twice a week, four weeks of an intensive summer program via zoom only, safe physical classes in the studio every other saturday…
it takes great dedication
regardless, they actually pulled off the nutcraker like they have every year within covid standards
this year Lilian was part of the chinese dragon
wish we could have watched her from the audience like we have for the past four years but so happy that she was able to be part of this great production again
looking forward to the video once they release it
happy monday friends!
it’s felt like a long week filled with lots of school work
this is crunch time before christmas break
looking forward to a chill weekend with Lilian and another week together
happy friday friends
my orchids are transitioning
