Lily has become more aware of the BlaBla Violet doll that our friend Rikki gave her. Violet is in the crib and when Lily awakes, she reaches for her and well, like everything these days, Violet goes in her mouth.
Lily is 5 months old today. Already? That was fast!
She weighs just about 16lbs and measures 25″.
Her mornings are spent at the park and the afternoons at the beach. She loves the swings and the ocean.
Lily can now easily roll over from her stomach to her back and from her back to her stomach. She is still trying hard to crawl and although she does move around, she has not yet mastered the art of crawling.
As far as food is concerned, she now eats rice cereal, bananas, apple and pear sauce, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, avocados, carrots, mangoes, broccoli, zucchini, peas and we will be trying tilapia today as a 5 month old gift. 😉
Lily’s sleeping patterns have been very consistent lately. She usually takes 2-3 naps during the day and she has for the most part been sleeping through the night, from 8pm until 5am. When she wakes at 5am, I bring her into bed with Will and I, I breast feed her and sleeps until 7-8am with us.
She smiles more and more each day that passes and we even got giggles twice yesterday. Something that we had not heard since she giggled for the first time. Lily is also quite vocal these days baby-talking up a storm!
Lily is a wonderful baby and we are so happy to have her in our lives. (tears of the purest happiness) 🙂
P.S.- As much as she has grown and changed, some things never do. She still rests her hand on my chest between my breasts when I breast feed her. It’s the sweetest thing.
Here are Lily’s little toes 3 days after she was born and below that, Lily’s toes last week. Lily’s hand resting on my chest while being breastfed also 3 days after her birth day. And, a 5 month old Lily today playing in her crib wearing babyGap pajamas that were a gift from uncle Darren.
Now that the mobile that avo Hayes and avo Joao gave Lily has been up for a while, we have had the time to really appreciate it and we LOVE it!!
Before, every time Lily would wake from a nap, she would scream right away for either me or Will. But with the mobile over her crib, she just lies there and appreciates the beautiful and bright floating fish on the mobile.
At night, we get to appreciate it as it flickers in the moonlight.
For the few of you who don’t know me that well, I used to paint. A lot! (If you would like to see my art, please visit www.claudiaguerreiro.com)
I’m saying used to because it’s something that I have not done since getting pregnant with Lily. I surprised myself by not painting when I was pregnant but, I was afraid of what the oils would do. So I didn’t.
And of course I haven’t.
I started seriously painting when I was 21. And since then, through different stages of my life I have painted more, less and none at all. So, I’m not worried. I just miss it. And because I’m no longer working, I miss it even more.
Lately, I have been missing an artistic outlet. There seems to not be enough time to pick up a paint brush so, I’ve become more active with the camera (as most of you have probably noticed).
I do however have a painting in mind. It is of course of Lily, my favorite subject and lil muse. 😉
In my head I paint this one painting I have been wanting to do since I took the picture. I use quicker, looser and less detailed brush strokes….it is a beautiful piece! I am worried that once I finish it in my head, I will one day no longer want to put it on canvas because I am already visually satisfied with what I have painted in this head of mine. (I know, weird but that’s the way it works with me)
In the meanwhile, I have started to make jewelry again. I made 5 necklaces yesterday.
It felt wonderful to be creative again and to use my hands and my eyes in an artistic way. I approach my jewelry like I do my painting…. lots of bright colors.
Here are my new creations. Of course Lily is my ultimate master piece! 🙂
Saturday night Will and I had our first night out without Lily.
We were invited to our friend Juan’s birthday party that started at 8:30p.m.. We thought about bringing Lily but decided to ask uncle Darren if he would babysit instead (he has been eager to do so). Not only would it end up being past Lily’s bed time but also, we needed some Will and Claudia time.
Before we left, we bathed, fed and put a very tired Lily in bed. When uncle Darren arrived, we slipped out the door.
On the way down in the elevator, Will and I both looked at each other and let out a long breath. Ok, here we were, out for the first time alone since Lily had been born.
It felt a bit strange and like we were missing something while we walked over to the restaurant but, soon after getting there and ordering the first drink, all was good.
We checked with uncle Darren via text every now and again and all was good at home with him and Lily as well. She had only gotten fussy in her sleep once and uncle Darren had it all under control with a little back rub and humming.
It was a fun night out and even though both Will and I missed Lily, it felt great to be out on a date! 😉
Here are Will and I with our friends out on saturday night.
