spring break in miami was canceled

two weeks in portugal with my family in early june was also canceled

so before summer is over and school starts again, Lily and i drove down to inverness florida where we quarantined at a house with a pool with our K

why crystal river area?

well, i have been curious about that area and wanting to visit three sisters springs for quite some time

i also didn’t want a drive longer than 9-10 hours

our airbnb in inverness was exactly what we had hoped it would be

maybe even better

a great house in a super quiet neighborhood with a screened in pool and big lanai

we spent most of our time at home in the pool however, we did get to venture out to three sisters (beautiful), went out to eat a few times and checked out a local produce market

it was the perfect quiet and relaxing getaway

happy friday friends

ps- i love this post so much because it’s filled with all the miami pool blue and it’s been a long time since it has had any of that color/feeling and it’s still the best and the one i love the most

waking up in inverness was the total opposite of waking up in asheville. it was quiet

three sisters springs

#turning47instpete

two years ago (now three years ago) i decided to spend my birthday in los angeles california with one of my oldest girlfriends Connie

this year (now last year) i decided to spend it in st pete florida with my other oldest girlfriend K

sometimes the mom guilt still tries to take over and keep me from doing and going places without my family but when it comes to birthday, spending it somewhere warm, tropical, in the sunshine, with palm trees and near the ocean is my preferred way to spend it

it’s not surprising

i was born in angola, luanda

a warm and tropical place by the sea

happy friday friends!

ps- i’ve been sick all week. sicker than i have been since i had the flu three years ago. so much so that i was convinced that i had the flu again. or pneumonia. so i went to the doctor yesterday. i have neither. i have a nasty virus that is going around that is taking forever to leave. stay healthy!

happy monday everyone!

Sunday

Yesterday afternoon Will, Lily and I went over to D’s house where K also joined us.

We sat in his courtyard , drank red wine, ordered dinner and finally heard all about his African Safari.

It felt wonderful to be with our Miami family.

Have a great sunday everyone!

The contradicting post

Ha!

So, after I just wrote a post (below) on how I want to wear tights and boots every day instead of a bikini and flip-flops, I’m writing one about how I took Lily to the beach yesterday.

The other night when auntie K was over she mentioned that Lily is a water baby and that the ocean was calling her to heal her hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

Even though the weather is warm enough to go to the beach and go swimming, I refuse to because it’s “winter”.

But, we went, had a great time and the ocean water did seem to make things better.

Salt water and olive oil is all you ever need I tell you. (along with wine, vodka, beer, magaritas…..)

Fly’s eye dome, Miru Kim and Black lips

Hello everyone!

Last night I had a date with a bowl of pasta, my couch and my man. I was so exhausted from the night before.

Why you might ask? Well, it is so hard to get around here by car due to all the Basel traffic that we decided to ride our bikes to the design district.

Can you say 11-12 mile ride there and back with crazy winds against us on the way back? Not so much fun.

But, the night itself was fun!

We started with Buckminster Fuller’s fly’s eye dome which is totally amazing especially at night. It made me feel like I was in space.

Then we headed over to the Primary Projects Gallery where we saw Miru Kim’s installation “I like pigs and pigs like me”.

What can you say about a woman who chooses to express herself by living in a pen at the front of one of the galleries with two pigs for 104 hours?

Art? Maybe not. Animal abuse? Maybe. But definitely makes for good conversation.

We finished the night with an awesome live performance by Black Lips.

They totally rocked it out, told security to get off the stage and basically let their fans get on stage to sing and dance with them. Pretty cool.

Today we are headed to Art Miami.

I wish you all a wonderful saturday!
