65 and a drive around Evora

Yesterday was my mom’s 65th birthday.

If someone had said to her 5 years ago that she would be spending her 65th with 2 grandchildren, she would have not believed them.

But, there she was with both Lily and baby Dicky. 🙂

We spent the day in Evora (an hour north from my parents) where my brother lives. He happens to live in the old part of town within the castle walls.

It was mostly a rainy day spent eating at a restaurant and then eating cake at my brother’s house.

I didn’t take any pics except of the drive to go get cake ( which was almost an impossible mission since it was a Holiday… All Saints Day) and then some of my mom blowing out the candles.

Evora is a beautiful old town and I wanted to show you how narrow the streets are.

Today is another rainy day here which is perfect for all the packing I have to do since we will be leaving tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!

P.S.- I just looked at the date. 2 years ago was Lily’s due date. Can’t believe she will be 2 in 5 days!!

Tio Ricky’s 31st

It was my brother’s 31st birthday on friday.

We were fortunate to be here this year just like last year to celebrate his special day with him.

I can’t believe he is 31. I can’t believe he is a father. I can’t believe how fast time flies.

Today is my mom’s birthday and we will be going to Evora to spend the day as a family and to say farewell to my brother, Anabela and baby Dicky. (that’s always a hard one for me)

Happy November everyone!

Lily put the candles on

happy 31st!

In my mother’s kitchen

I’m not really a breakfast person, not as soon as I wake up anyway.

But, in my mother’s kitchen, I’m a breakfast person.

Fresh goat cheese and melons from local farmers, fresh sweet bread from the local bakery… yes please!

The only thing I don’t really care for is all the chickens. But, whatever, that’s my mom’s thing.

Are you guys breakfast people? What do you like to have?

Oh! I know it’s wednesday and it’s supposed to be mamas&their babies day but, I have decided that since I am on vacation, the segment is too. I will restart it in November when we return to Miami.

In the meanwhile, please visit Happy Chaos for some mamas&their babies. 🙂

paozinhos de leite (sweet milk bread) and queijinhos frescos (fresh goat cheese)

Mommy Style Update

Lily and I went to Ross yesterday.

I was hoping I would find some cute sandals for her since the other ones I got are still a bit big but, instead I walked out with 3 more Eric Carle books.

I looked in my closet and saw one of my Zara tops from last year that when I purchased it, I purchased it with the intentions of it being a “nicer” top.

Well, my social life is close to none these days (sad but true) and life is too short.

So, I wore it casually. 🙂

Old Lisbon

Our weekend trip to Pine Island got canceled due to Lily having a fever and not feeling well again. (I really hope for her sake and ours that her molars come in soon)

We took our time lounging around the house this morning and then ventured out to Sunset Place.

We walked around, I checked out F21 and then we searched for a place to have lunch.

As we walked down the street, we came across Old Lisbon.

Old Lisbon is a Portuguese restaurant that has been around for a while and that I have heard a lot about but, had never checked out.

We decided to go in and have a taste.

The food was ok.

Not great, not bad, just ok.

Both Will and I had a lot of fun reminiscing about Portugal and comparing Old Lisbon’s food to my mom’s. (it didn’t even compare 😉 )

Hope you are all having a wonderful saturday.

Sundays are my favorite!

I love sundays.

We lounged around the house in the morning and watched cartoons.

Will made us pancakes.

We video chatted with avo Carmo and avo Ricardo.

We went on a bike ride to the park and to SouthPointe.

Had lunch on the balcony.

Took a family nap.

Read books, played and watched the Grammy’s.

Sundays are my favorite! 🙂

P.S.- And can I just add that yesterday was absolutely gorgeous here in Miami? GORGEOUS!!

My dearest Lily,

Well, after another very long flight (you only slept 2 hours out of the 9 but yet you behaved so well), here we are back home in Miami.

I must tell you that you became quite the little person in that month we were in Portugal.

2 weeks after we were there, you started walking and you also became way more vocal.

You are quite talkative these days.

You now say “da” (give in Portuguese) and “agu” (agua, water in Portuguese).

It must have been the fact that you were surrounded by people who spoke the same secret language that only I spoke to you up until then.

You felt comfortable.

You were friendly and easily took to everyone.

Your avo Carmo and avo Ricardo fell in love with you the moment we walked out of the airport gates.

Every morning when you and I would wake, we would go into the kitchen where avo Carmo would be already making coffee.

You would get the biggest smile on your face as she would make a silly morning dance for you. 🙂

After breakfast, you already knew that it was time to get you washed and dressed to go get coffee with avo Ricardo at the neighborhood cafe.

I had never seen my own father that way.

I can only imagine that he was the same way with me but, it was deeply moving to see him in a whole different light.

You adapted so well to the every day routine we had in Portugal.

I feel guilty (and a bit sad) that we had to take you away from it. (at first we introduced you to it and then we took you away)

But, such is life Lily.

Everyone has their different lives and unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world where we can all live in the same place.

I know your avo Carmo and avo Ricardo miss you so very much already as I’m sure you miss them too.

We will see them soon, I promise.

Love you always,

P.S.- Here are some sweet moments of you and your avos.

Our last day in Portugal

Today was our last day here.

It was a relaxing day spent mostly at home with family coming by to say their goodbyes.

Days like this are always hard for me.

I’m not good at saying goodbye and it seems to be getting harder as I get older.

The longer the stay, the harder it seems to say goodbye.

I keep thinking about my parents the next few days (they are always the hardest) without Lily to wake up to.

This makes me sad…

We had a great month all together and I’m so thankful for that.

Can’t wait until we can all be together again.

These photos were taken at the park yesterday. We got one last sunset at the park. 🙂

Lily’s 1st birthday

For Lily’s birthday yesterday, we had a small family birthday party for her at tia Tete’s house.

As always there was lots of food and tons of sweets.

Lily walked more than ever yesterday.

She was all over the yard and the house all by herself.

We sang happy birthday to her both in Portuguese and in English.

She was all about the cake, the blowing of the candle, the opening of all the wonderful presents that she received and wearing the beautiful dress that uncle Michael gave her a while back.

It was a wonderful day.

I can’t believe she is 1. She is officially a toddler…

I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Picture overload again. 😉
