Beach

around here. oak island

i spent most of this week in oak island with my old fox&beaux girls

it was its five year anniversary so Lauren rented a big ocean front house in oak island and invited me to come along

everyone had their own bedroom, there were delicious home cooked meals, cocktails, pool time, beach time, full pink moon walks…

it was the first time i have ever had a vacation with so many ladies and i loved every second of it

feeling so thankful to have been a part of it all

my bedroom view

carolina beach. spring break

it’s sunday morning and i am in bed still recuperating from my second moderna dose taken on friday

this second dose has really kicked my butt

i began feeling the effects late in the afternoon on friday, that night was horrible

my body ached all through the night, i had hot chills, cold chills… for sure a fever

saturday morning i finally took some advil and it helped with the aches a little but i still had no energy

i got much better sleep last night and compared to yesterday morning i am feeling much better but still feeling run down so am just going to take it easy since i will be volunteering tomorrow all day

anyway, i usually don’t post on sunday but figured i might as well update this space since i have the down time

our little spring break in carolina beach with our friend Cailyn was wonderful!

our airbnb was at the quiet end of the beach, 1 row of houses back from the ocean, within walking distance to a small pier…making our stay effortless, relaxing and fun

it was the perfect getaway for the three of us

there were sunrises

early walks on the beach. for me. the girls slept in

plenty of morning and afternoon beach time and although the water was cold, we all got in it every day

there were balcony hangs. mostly for me. it’s where i had my coffee in the morning and my nap after morning beach time

there were pier hangs

there were late afternoon walks on the beach

there were sunsets

an overnight visit to the ocean

two saturdays ago Lilian and i got in the car and drove four hours south to folly beach south carolina for an overnight visit to the ocean

it was a short 24 hours away but much needed

something we need to do more often because it had been since august

we caught the sunset at our favorite spot

i caught the sunrise

the best view to wake to

the ocean…. my oldest friend and a constant reset

#mamaandlilianfollybeachtrip2020

it’s saturday morning and i’m writing this post in bed while sipping coffee

it’s quiet

Lilian is at William’s for the week

this will be our second time sharing her this way since she and i moved into our casa azul

our life is different these days

the same in many ways but different

it’s been a while since i have come here to share anything other than project fifty two posts

and i am not sure if this morning is the time to share the emotions of going through a separation and having to start over again on my own

this morning i mostly just want to share pictures from our week at folly beach during the first week of back to school

summer was certainly different this year

for everyone i guess

i’m thankful that we were able to get some beach time

it had been since february since i/we had seen the ocean

the beach is still where i feel my best and where i feel we are our happiest

until next time. hopefully sooner than later

carolina beach, nc

one week ago today we packed up the car and drove six hours to carolina beach after we picked Lilian up from school

due to parent/teacher conferences and a teacher working day, she had a four day weekend so i planned a beach getaway for us all (foxy included)

i got a pet friendly airbnb right on the beach where we comfortably stayed for four nights

being right on the ocean was a must

for four days the first thing i saw was the ocean and the last thing i heard was the ocean

nothing better as far as i’m concerned

if i could go back to living in miami, before making the decision to move to asheville sight unseen, i would hold that decision and explore more places

like wilmington

a place close to the ocean that right away felt more like home than asheville ever could even four years after living here

but such is life

and in life mistakes are made

and lessons are hopefully learned

i now know that this is the farthest i will ever live from the ocean

but i also know that one day i will live close to the ocean again

because it’s what feels right and natural to me

and i may not always be certain of everything

but i am certain of that

it was night time when we arrived but, woke up to this. and regardless of how cold and rainy it was that day, i stood out on the balcony and took it all in

it was really cold and rainy that first full day there. but it didn’t stop us from going to the beach

because it was so cold and rainy, we took shelter for a few hours at the north carolina aquarium in fort fisher

favorite books and new author found at the aquarium’s gift shop

friday started out cold as well but i went on a morning beach walk regardless

while William worked at the apartment, Lilian and i drove to wilmington where we explored downtown and saw snippets of spring

afternoon beach walk and the beginning of a sunset

i woke up early enough to catch the sunrise both saturday and sunday morning. right off our balcony. no way better to start the day

sunday. one last morning beach walk before we left

miami. spring break twenty nineteen. part one

two weeks ago (already?) Lily and i got in the car at 7am and drove 12.5 hours straight from asheville to miami where we arrived at 7:30pm

even though the car radio/gps system did not work and only my phone was used, even though Lily’s i-pad did not work the whole entire drive, we are badass road warriors who made the trip in one day by only making three quick stops

because long car trips are something we have done with Lily since she was one month old, she has always been a great car rider

that said, as she has gotten older, she just keeps getting better and better and road trips with her just keep getting more and more fun

so yes, we arrived in miami at 7:30pm on thursday two weeks ago and eighty degree weather and car windows down never felt so good

neither did that sweet miami air

our airbnb was not booked until the following day so we drove to surfside where we spent the night with dear friends

we couldn’t have asked for a better welcome and a better way to start our spring break

ps- not pictured: our trip to publix after we left our friends’ home, checking into our airbnb and a much anticipated reunion between Lily and her miami bff Savannah as well as friday happy hour in our old hood

welcome to miami

i met these two lovely people in 2002 when i interviewed with Min for a sales position at a high end jewelry store. she quickly not only became my manager but a good friend. their daughter was the same age as Lily is now when we met. 15 years of friendship later, their daughter is now 26

friday morning. i miss waking up to a miami jungle

breakfast

their daughter Lulu is a wonderful artist. she and Lily love doodling together

i have a thing with window sills….

the beach! the beach! the beach! omg it had been so long…. too long
