Rain-forest at the library

Yesterday was the last themed program at the library.

The collaboration between The Miami Beach Library with Jungle Island was wonderful.

First we had birds of paradise, then reptiles and yesterday we had rain-forest which was a nice combination of both.

All the kids loved learning about all the animals and of course getting to pet them.

Can I just say one more time that… we LOVE our library!

A bike ride with birds and street food

It was such a beautiful afternoon out yesterday that Will and I decided to go on a family bike ride to the beach.

While riding, we saw all these seagulls going crazy over a bag of fritos that two guys were crinkling.

Of course we had to stop and let Lily out because she is crazy for birds.

It was awesome!

There were so many and they were flying so low.

Ocean Drive was having their Deco Walk Fair so we walked around and got some yummy street food for dinner.

It was a fun and spontaneous friday night!

Today Will has taken Lily out for the day and I’m going to attempt to paint. (I’m saying attempt because I’m scared that I won’t know how to paint since it has been 2 years)

Happy saturday everyone!!

Lil Baselista

Lily had her first Basel experience last night and what a great night it was!!

At the hotel W (by far my favorite hotel on the beach at the moment. it is fabulous!!), she saw her first Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Condo, Damien Hirst, Kenny Scharf and she also took a much needed power nap.

She saw her first live concert. Metric rocked!

And….. she met Perry Farrell!!!!! 🙂

Yup, we caught him at the Townhouse Hotel on his way out.

He was more than happy to chit-chat with us a bit and even pose for a picture with Lily.

At the National hotel we were blown away by Miguel Paredes’s art. I think his was Lily’s favorite since his art is super bright, the eyes are huge and there were lots of birds.

It was a rockin’ first night of Basel.

Al fresco

Eating al fresco is Lily’s favorite way to eat.

She loves it when we eat out. She just sits there on the high chair looking at everyone as they walk by.

When we are at home, eating on the balcony is where Lily prefers to eat.

That way she can watch the birds, the cars, the neighbors go by. (she’s very nosy!)

It’s been too hot to be on the balcony however, yesterday in the late afternoon, it was just perfect for Lily to have her dinner out there.

And as she ate her star shaped pasta mixed with beets, carrots and sweet potato, I couldn’t help but snap some photos of her.

Here is Lily, my nosy little beet face. 🙂

Must have of the day

Lazy sunday afternoons on the balcony so we can watch the birds fly by.

Will, Lily and I had a wonderful late afternoon on our balcony yesterday.

The sky was a beautiful blue, there was a slight breeze and there were many birds flying and chirping around.

Lily was very entertained. 🙂 (photos by WRE)

First taste of rain

Lately every time Lily wants to step out to the balcony, she crawls over to the sliding glass door, waves her hands up and down and looks at me.

I know what this means already so I pick her up and out to the balcony we go.

Lily’s favorite thing to do once she is on the balcony is to be on a lap leaning against the railing (don’t worry, she is held tight) and look out to see what is going on in the neighborhood.

She watches the cars going by, neighbors walking their dogs, the birds flying by (loves them) and watches the leaves in the trees blow in the wind.

There we all were yesterday enjoying the late afternoon on the balcony when it started pouring! Typical weather for Miami this time of the year.

As it started pouring, Lily was leaning against the railing and little drops of rain began to lightly sprinkle her.

Just like when she showers, she reached out with her delicate little fingers to try to catch the rain and her little tongue began to reach out for the droplets of water as well.

It was the cutest thing ever watching Lily have her first taste of rain.

She loves water!

Here is Lily on the balcony yesterday catching and tasting rain. Lily wears a onesie that was a gift.

Early beach morning

This morning after Lily had her cereal, I decided to head off to the beach. It was 8:30a.m. when we left the house and our feet were on the sand by 9a.m.

It was a bit cloudy this morning which was perfect. Not too sunny, not too hot.

Our walk down Lincoln Rd was just lovely. Nice and quiet. The only noise was of birds chirping.

Once we reached the beach, I was so glad that we had taken off early and that we were there. There was hardly anyone around.

The tide was out and the ocean was perfectly still reminding me of this time last year when I was pregnant with Lily.

Darren, Will and I would meet up on Lincoln Rd on our bikes around 7:30a.m., ride to the beach and then Darren and I would go for a power walk along the water while Will would do some Thai Chi. We would then do some swimming around before heading back home and then off to work.

I can’t believe that I now have Lily here and I can do the same with her. 🙂

Lily and I played in the water for some time (she loves it), we sat on the sand and looked around for pretty shells.

Afterward, it was time to come back home, shower, eat and of course after all that….take a nap!

What a perfect way to start the day!

Here we are just this morning at the beach. Lily wears a hat by Patagonia that was a gift from avo Hayes and avo Joao and a romper by babyGap.

Another rainy monday

What a rainy day yesterday was!

Lily and I were out of the house by 9:15a.m. on our way to the library for some story and singing time but as we kept walking, the sky got darker and darker along with some sprinkles coming down.

I decided that it would be better to not risk going all the way there and it’s a good thing I did because it started pouring 5 minutes after we had returned home.

We did manage to stroll for a good hour and we saw some flowers that we had not seen before, some piu pius (little birds for babies in Portuguese) and some fish in the new Lincoln Rd water features (or ponds if you will).

Here are some of the flowers, piu pius and fish we saw. I really loved these first orange ones. They look like they are made out of tissue paper.

Lil muse sunshine!

After 2 days of rain (sunday and most of yesterday) Lily is back to her normal self today.

Unlike me, she does not care for the rain. She is a sunshine baby!

I was happy the sun came out in the afternoon yesterday and we got to make it to the park. Lily was feeling quite cranky so it was wonderful to be at the playground with Lily’s bff Sofia again.

Today has been a beautiful day so far. The sun started shining first thing in the morning and unlike most mornings, after Lily had her breakfast, we went on a morning walk.

We were out the door before it was even 9a.m. and it felt refreshing to be out at that time without many people around yet.

The streets were still quiet so we could really hear the sounds of the birds chirping.

The trees are in full bloom and there are so many beautiful flowers around!

Perhaps we will make this part of our morning routine since in a few months it will start getting too hot later on in the day. 😉

Here’s to Spring and a sunshine Lily!

Here are some photos of our walk this morning. Lily wears bodysuit by The Children’s Place and hat by Zutano.
