Lately I have been feeling very overwhelmed.
Overwhelmed by how long it has been since I have seen my family.
Overwhelmed with trying to buy tickets to Portugal and when to go.
Overwhelmed by how fast Lily is growing and how big she is. (can’t believe she is almost 10 months old!)
Overwhelmed by how hot it is. (summers in Miami kill me)
Overwhelmed by how unmotivated I am lately. (I think it’s the heat, it makes me lethargic)
Overwhelmed by how long it has been since I have painted. (afraid I don’t even know how to anymore…)
Overwhelmed with trying to make a decision about moving. Do we stay in Miami or do we go somewhere else? (the heat plays a huge factor)
Overwhelmed by the loss of a friend.
Overwhelmed by the birth of another. (isn’t it ironic how that works…)
Overwhelmed by life…

Today is our last full day here in WV.
We will be packing up the car and driving back to Miami tomorrow afternoon.
We are sad to leave but we feel blessed to have had such an amazing two weeks here.
We will deeply miss our family, friends, the dogs and this beautiful place.
I will also really miss the every day simple routine I have had here.
Waking up with fresh air from sleeping with the windows open.

Yesterday afternoon we all went to Whitaker Falls.
It was hot enough for a swim and the water was not too cold.
Everyone got in the water. Even Lily!
It was her first time and she loved it.
It was so nice being there.

Yesterday we spent almost the whole day outside.
We started out in the morning with a walk into the woods where we picked some wild blackberries, checked out some wild mushrooms and admired all the different trees, flowers and moss.

We had a wonderful weekend with the whole family together.
Something that doesn’t happen as often as we would all like.
It was wonderful seeing Lily and Adelaide play together. The two cousins had not seen each other since Christmas time and Lily was not even 2 months old then.
There was some fishing in the pond, lots of running around with the dogs, blackberry picking, rolling on the grass, and lots of good cooking by avo Hayes.
It’s wonderful to be surrounded by family and nature all around. I feel so blessed to be a part of it all.

Two saturdays ago we did the ART walk in the design district and had a great time!
There were tons of people out, live music on the streets, lots (and I mean LOTS) of amazing art everywhere, it was a wonderful evening spent with Will, Lily and uncle Darren.
At one of the galleries, I was introduced to
Charles Pfahl‘s work.
Charles‘s art is not typically something that I would be attracted to (I tend to like pretty art, the world can be an ugly place as is) however, days after seeing his works, I still couldn’t get it out of my head. (that’s what good art is supposed to do, right?)
Archetype still haunts me.
As an artist I envied its size, its detail, its muted colors.
As a mother, I was not emotionally prepared to stand before it. I literally shed tears as I stood there.
It’s not every day that art affects me like that.

All those heavy feelings just came back to me all over again.
Let me bring it back to the light and fun side with some pictures from that night.

Lily’s passport arrived today.
She can finally go visit her family who so anxiously awaits to meet her in Portugal in September. (now all we need are tickets)
Go Lily, Go!
And on that note, HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! I will be meeting up with one of my best friends who I have not seen in more than 3 years.

Yesterday was a bad day but today is a new day and a good day. That’s the way it goes, right?
Will took Lily to the park yesterday afternoon and it gave me almost 2 hours by myself.
It was just what I needed. Some “alone” time. (thank you Will!)
As I sat here feeling sorry for myself, I could hear my mom in my head.
Had she been here yesterday (she’s still alive and well thankfully, just not here), she would have told me to woman up!
So you know what?
I felt it, verbalized it, got through it and carried on!
P.S.- I want to thank my family, friends and mommy bloggers (you know who you all are) who showed some major support to the way I was feeling yesterday. Thank you!

Going to brunch on sundays has become one of our favorite things to do as a family during the weekend.
We usually go to the beach early in the morning first and then to Front Porch, our usual beach breakfast spot however, this sunday since Lily had not been feeling great the last couple of days, we decided to skip the beach and try out a new breakfast spot.
We ended up in midtown at this place called S&S Diner. It was super small with a horse shoe shaped bar with stools and that was it!
The food, the people and the atmosphere were awesome!
The place has been there since 1938 and I think the waitresses too! 😉 They were old school!
The food was nothing fancy but really good and inexpensive.
Lily got to taste some yummy french toast and home fries. She loved it.
We had a great time.
