food

July 4th 2011

Yesterday there was no BBQ, there was a late picnic on the beach instead.

There was pasta salad, shrimp cocktail, cheese and crackers, fruit salad and beer.

There were friends, games and fire works.

There wasn’t as much red but there was lots of white and blue.

It was perfect.

Hope you all had a great July 4th also.

Saturday fun for everyone

We had such a great and long day filled with fun for everyone yesterday.

We left the house at 10am and headed to the main Miami library downtown for their 11th Annual International Story Reading Festival.

Lily got her face painted for the first time (stars of course), we heard some folk singing, saw some Peruvian dancing and saw a puppet show.

After all that fun we were all hungry so we decided to head over to the food truck festival that was going on.

Lily, Will, uncle Darren, tia Sarah and I all got some yummy food that went down fast and some waters that went down even faster. (it was HOT out!)

With our bellies full, the plan was to come home and maybe put Lily down for a nap however, we decided to go to Bayside Village and be tourists.

It was my first time there, we all got some pina coladas and beer and soaked up the cruise tourists energy.

As if that wasn’t enough, on the way to the car, we let Lily have some play time at the park.

It was a full day.

Hope your saturday was great as well!

Old Lisbon

Our weekend trip to Pine Island got canceled due to Lily having a fever and not feeling well again. (I really hope for her sake and ours that her molars come in soon)

We took our time lounging around the house this morning and then ventured out to Sunset Place.

We walked around, I checked out F21 and then we searched for a place to have lunch.

As we walked down the street, we came across Old Lisbon.

Old Lisbon is a Portuguese restaurant that has been around for a while and that I have heard a lot about but, had never checked out.

We decided to go in and have a taste.

The food was ok.

Not great, not bad, just ok.

Both Will and I had a lot of fun reminiscing about Portugal and comparing Old Lisbon’s food to my mom’s. (it didn’t even compare 😉 )

Hope you are all having a wonderful saturday.

Thankful on Thanksgiving

On this Thanksgiving (and every day really) there is so much that I am truly so thankful for.

Here is a short and sweet little list.

I am thankful for Will. He is the best husband, my best friend, and such a wonderful father. He always talks me into reason the right way. I’m not easy. I can be loca sometimes. 😉

I am thankful for my blue eyed cheeky-cheeky Lily. I would have never known this kind of crazy, unconditional mad love if it wasn’t for her. (and Will also)

I am thankful for my family. When I say family, I mean my blood family and the family I married into. I love you all so much and am ever so fortunate to have you all in my life.

I am thankful for the wonderful friends I have. Some are close, many are far but nonetheless, you are all so supportive and full of love.

I am thankful for our good health.

I am thankful that I get to be a stay at home mom to Lily, to watch her grow and not miss a second of it. (thank you Will!)

I am thankful for the roof over our heads. Although I get frustrated with our living situation many times, I am completely aware that there are many who don’t have a roof over their heads.

I am thankful for the food on our table.

I am thankful to this blog which has given me the opportunity to share my experiences and meet so many other moms who I would have not had a chance to meet. What a great support system!

And although silly, I am thankful for Facebook. It helps me keep in touch with family, friends that live close and far and reconnect with long lost friends.

I told you I would make it short and sweet. (time to eat!)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Lily last year on Thanksgiving. she was only 19 days old. what a difference 1 year makes!

Only 5 days left!!

Portugal awaits us.

Lily and I will be leaving next wednesday. That’s in 5 days!

As I start getting ready for this monthly getaway, I can’t help but to wonder what Lily will think of the whole experience.

Every time we see a plane up in the sky, I tell her that she and I will soon go on one so she can meet her avo Carmo, avo Ricardo, tio Ricky and the rest of the family.

I also wonder what she will think when she finds herself in a country that speaks this special language (Portuguese) that really only I speak with her.

She is in for a big surprise!

There will be lots of new family around, new places to see, new foods and flavors, I can’t wait!! (I miss the Portuguese country side so much!)

This weekend will be for family.

I want Lily and I to spend as much time with Will as possible since we won’t see him for 2 weeks. (that is the longest we have ever been apart 🙁 )

Have a great weekend everyone!!

(Please vote for us here. Thank you!)

Here are some of my favorite places that I look forward to sharing with Lily.

10 month babble!

I can’t believe Lily is 10 months old today.

10 months!!!!!

She is only 2 months away from being 1!

At 10 months she now has 4 teeth on top and is getting 2 more on the bottom making it a total of 8 teeth.

She is not quite walking yet but is so close and so eager to do so.

She stands up and back down with the help of objects but not quite on her own just yet.

She eats all sorts of food. (including mine and Will’s) 😉

She sleeps all through the night. From 8pm until 7am. (YAY!!!!)

Lately she has been only taking 1 nap instead of the 2 she used to.

She is smiling more and more, but don’t think she lost her serious side all the way…..

And at home she is a little babbling fool. 🙂

HAPPY 10 MONTHS LILY!!!!!!!!!!!! We love you soooooooooooo much!

In loving memory

Yesterday was a sad day.

We lost a friend yesterday.

Darnell was bigger than life!

His smile, his laugh, his sense of humor, his love for food, his love for people, his love for fashion, his love for life…

We all lost him too soon.

He will be missed by many but I know that wherever he is, Darnell is shining down on us with the biggest smile.

Rest in peace Darnell.

Darnell. August 23 2009. (exactly 1 year from today)

Family, it’s a wonderful thing

We had a wonderful weekend with the whole family together.

Something that doesn’t happen as often as we would all like.

It was wonderful seeing Lily and Adelaide play together. The two cousins had not seen each other since Christmas time and Lily was not even 2 months old then.

There was some fishing in the pond, lots of running around with the dogs, blackberry picking, rolling on the grass, and lots of good cooking by avo Hayes.

It’s wonderful to be surrounded by family and nature all around. I feel so blessed to be a part of it all.

Lily and cousin Adelaide meet again
