#turning47instpete

two years ago (now three years ago) i decided to spend my birthday in los angeles california with one of my oldest girlfriends Connie

this year (now last year) i decided to spend it in st pete florida with my other oldest girlfriend K

sometimes the mom guilt still tries to take over and keep me from doing and going places without my family but when it comes to birthday, spending it somewhere warm, tropical, in the sunshine, with palm trees and near the ocean is my preferred way to spend it

it’s not surprising

i was born in angola, luanda

a warm and tropical place by the sea

happy friday friends!

ps- i’ve been sick all week. sicker than i have been since i had the flu three years ago. so much so that i was convinced that i had the flu again. or pneumonia. so i went to the doctor yesterday. i have neither. i have a nasty virus that is going around that is taking forever to leave. stay healthy!

around here

it has felt like a really long week for some reason

maybe because we are all sort of under the weather just trying to push on through?

maybe because by this time we are all run down and need break?

maybe because it’s been extra cold and rainy?

yes, all of that

next week will be the last week of school for winter break and we are all ready for it

happy friday friends

around here

december

can you believe it?

we are so close to the end of twenty nineteen and the beginning of twenty twenty

twenty twenty

it seemed like a date that was so futuristic and so far to reach and now here we are

december has become a bit of a crazy month for us since Lily joined the nutcracker with her ballet school a few years ago

extra ballet classes (even on some weekends), nutcracker itself (two performances the week before christmas) and for the second year in a row, she will be participating in the big crafty (this saturday and sunday)

we are busy, busy, busy in december and before we know it, we are in west virginia and it is christmas

although i am always in awe (and complaining) of how quickly time goes by these days, once november comes, i always want to just fast forward to january when everything feels calm once again

everything just feels so overwhelming this time of year

maybe that’s another reason why i love summer so much

happy friday friends!

we spent thanksgiving cooking. just the three of us for the most part. it was great

how we spent black friday

Lily made a delicious mixed berry cobbler mostly all on her own and it was the best i have ever had

she flew in on thanksgiving night and for that we were all thankful. it had been a while

the best mirror is an old friend. twenty eight years and going

a beautiful sunday out and about in town

i was sick and spent a lot of time at home this week. there were rewards though. sunrise

around here

it’s wednesday morning and thanksgiving break has officially begun

it is just a little after 8am, rainy and gloomy, William and Lily went to the gym (she likes to think she can run on the treadmill) and i am just sitting here with a hot cup of coffee brought to me in bed

this hardly ever happens

i am usually the first one up and about but today i decided to just stay in bed, give up control and let them do

it feels good

thanksgiving is tomorrow

we are staying in, cooking, eating and then at night we will be picking up one of my oldest girlfriends from the airport

we have a fun filled weekend planned with her and other friends

i am looking forward to and thankful for all of it

happy thanksgiving friends!

autumn sunrises have been winning lately

autumn inspired home cooked meals

early morning marvel discussions

visiting our friends’ shop downtown and finding new work by one of her favorite local artists

around here

friends, thanksgiving is next week and november is almost over

how? how? how?

too fast, too fast, too fast

this year for the first time ever i think we are spending thanksgiving on our own

this has never happened before since Lily was born

in miami we were always the ones hosting it and since we have lived here, we have gone to west virginia once and spent the others at a neighbor’s house

although a bit strange of a feeling just spending it on our own, we are welcoming the change and the day spent home cooking, watching the parade and best in show

happy friday friends!!

a sleepover with four of her besties

green spaces are my favorite spaces

we found foxy on Lily’s third birthday. which means he has been with us for seven years now

around here. halloween

this year halloween was celebrated for a week

it started last friday when Lily got dressed up to go to her halloween lock in at her gymnastics

then on saturday we had our neighborhood halloween party

and finally yesterday on the rainiest and coldest day of the season we finally went trick or treating on actual halloween

phew!

all fun but, dare i say that i am a little halloweened out???

happy friday and happy november friends

it is currently thirty degrees

temperatures have really dropped and will continue doing so for the weekend

we are staying in!

all dressed up for her halloween lock in

getting ready for our neighborhood halloween party

some of the neighborhood

with her bestie since first grade all ready to go trick or treating on halloween

around here

temperatures changed drastically this week

it was in the low forties in the mornings (and almost all day yesterday) and it’s in the thirties right now (it’s a little after six in the morning)

it’s like we went from summer straight to winter (let’s not talk about how it already snowed in west virginia)

but this crazy fast change in weather won’t stay

true autumn weather is in the forecast and i am looking forward to it

hope you guys are enjoying the change of season where you are

happy friday friends!

around here

although temperatures are still high around here (in the 90s), it feels like all of the sudden the end of the year has snuck up on us

with halloween, Lily’s birthday (10!), thanksgiving, christmas and new year’s around the corner it feels like the next couple of months are going to just fly by

i always wish that the second half of the school year would go as fast as the first half

but it doesn’t

there are always less holidays, less three day weekends and there is always that dreadful winter to make things feel…. well, more dreadful

on that note, happy friday friends!

this was our last southbeach beach day all together while still living in miami. it has officially been four years since we moved to asheville

my green babies are so happy these days

we went to the greek festival

one month into the new school year, it is now dark when we wake in the morning

after a month of ninety degree heat, this week we finally got a break and the temperatures dropped to the seventies

i always think i keep up with what’s around here and then i look to see when the last post was and… well, it’s been a while

i still have so many summer break pictures to share

monument valley, grand canyon, sedona, vegas, panama city beach….

but as much as i’d like to stay in vacation mode, life just keeps moving forward

these days faster than ever before

at the end of this month summer will be over and it will officially be fall

i enjoy fall

but i dread what comes after it

it will also be four years since we moved from miami to asheville

four years!

it’s hard for me to believe it’s been that long

i still miss our miami life in the red house with the pool and our dear friends near

perhaps i don’t miss miami as much as i miss us in miami

and regardless of how good life is here, how great the house we live in is (we have paid our price) and how many friends we have, i still feel landlocked, like i don’t belong and want to head towards the ocean just about daily

asheville makes me feel the loneliest i have ever felt

it’s a feeling i can’t seem to shake off

even after four years

thanks for listening friends

hope you are all having a good week so far

flowers, flowers and more flowers. i don’t think i could (or would want to) live in a world without flowers. which makes winter harder than it already is
