Hat

Jeans

The weather here yesterday got no complaints from me.

It was in the 60’s just how I like it and I only hope it stays like that for a while. (wishful thinking on my part. always)

Will, Lily and I went on a long bike ride and we also stopped by the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Will hadn’t seen it since the renovation.

So, the weather was great, the bike ride and the garden were fun, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. What I would like to talk about on here today is jeans.

Skinny, high waisted jeans at that.

I found the perfect pair and they didn’t cost more than $100.00. Heck, they didn’t cost more than $60.00!

The days of me spending $200.00 on jeans have been over for a while. Not only do I no longer work retail therefore don’t get the great discount but we are also a family of 3 on 1 paycheck.

So, goodbye 7for all mankind, Joe’s, AG, Diesel.

I had not purchased a pair of jeans since before I got pregnant with Lily. Not only has my body changed in the 3 years but I was also sick of the few jeans I had.

I tried Gap, Urban Outfitters, F21. None of their jeans fit me right.

Then I decided to go to Levi’s and try a few pair there. I knew just what I wanted. I wanted high waisted, regular blue denim with not a whole lot of stretch. Preferably no stretch.

I tried a bunch of women’s jeans and none of them fit the way I wanted them to fit.

So, I told the sales person I wasn’t opposed to men’s jeans. I wore men’s 501’s all through high school.

He brought me a pair of 510 super skinny men’s jeans and as soon as I put them on, it was like I heard angels singing in the fitting room.

Bingo! Perfect! Just what I had been looking for.

Good old denim that feels and looks like denim. High waisted just right. 30″ inseam so they hit at the ankle just like I wanted.

The only thing that was weird is that in men’s jeans you have to go up sizes. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Weird.

Whatever size, I don’t care. 510 men’s super skinny, I love you!

What about you ladies? Do you have a jean you just love and live by?

And we are off!

We were supposed to leave tomorrow night but, since Will ended up having the day off today (thank you Jason) we will be hitting the road tonight.

This morning we went to the beach for a last dip in the ocean and I wish I could say it was great but 30 minutes after getting there, the water was full of fish and jelly fish.

I got lightly stung again, not fun but, at least Lily didn’t.

We did however have a great lunch with our friends Zura and Lien and fun at babyGap where I picked up some much needed 99c socks for Lily and the girls put on a show modeling the latest coats and hats.

We will be on the road until friday night and the internet in WV is not the greatest so, if you don’t see a new post on here or don’t hear from me, don’t you worry.

And now… I have to pack. See you all soon!

A few firsts

Lily had a few firsts this weekend.

Saturday afternoon, Will and I took Lily to see Winnie the Pooh, her first movie. (I will write more and post pics during the week)

Yesterday, instead of going to the beach like we normally do, I suggested we go to Isla Morada to feed the tarpon (fish).

Will, Darren and I used to go down there often but hadn’t been since Lily was born.

At Robbie’s, we fed the tarpon (Lily was amazed by the size of the fish), had lunch and then decided to go kayaking.

Because 400 pictures were taken yesterday (by me, Darren and Will), it is going to take me a while to pick and choose (and edit) so, this post is dedicated to the kayaking (and last part) of our trip.

It was Lily’s (and mine) first time kayaking and she loved it! (and I did too!)

We rented a 3 seater so Lily could sit in the middle and paddled all the way to Indian Island.

Lily willingly put on the little life vest and sat in the middle with no problem (even though there were no belts or anything), she loved stopping along the way to swim around, she enjoyed walking around and explore the island once we got there….

It was a great day filled with fun, we will definitely have to do it again soon.

Hope you all had a great weekend as well. Happy first day of august!

P.S.- I love my new hat that I had to purchase at Robbie’s because I left the house without one AND…. Lily’s Salt Water sandals rocked in the salt water!!!!

Beach style

For those of you who come here regularly, you must have noticed that we have been spending a lot of time at the beach.

It’s summer time in Miami, the park is getting quite hot and buggy, the botanical garden is closed for renovations until fall, flamingo park pool is closed to the public in the mornings, so…. that leaves us with either beach or the pool in our building. (we are fortunate to have both)

And that means beach style!

When it comes to beach style, the less the better.

A hat, a t-shirt, bikini bottoms, flip-flops and sunscreen.

That is all Lily needs.

Here she is on Lincoln Rd waiting for our friends to arrive so we could all walk to the beach together.

Beachin’ it

I know that a lot of you are surrounded by snow in super cold weather and I swear I’m not rubbing these beach pictures in your face.

Beach days like yesterday are a pay back for ALL the horrible hot and humid days I go through living here. (for what seems like 8-9 months out of the year)

It had been a while (october?) since we had gone to the beach in bathing suits and had gone swimming.

It felt great!!!

Shame, shame, shame!

I asked Will to get my 2 boxes of winter clothes from storage so I could get some of my winter sweaters for West Virginia and to see what else was in there.

I was so happy to see all of my boots (some of which I had forgotten about), my old woolen dresses and my hats!!

I was even happier that my favorite BCBG wool dress and skirt still fit! (it’s a tighter squeeze than before but they fit!)

These 2 BCBG pieces are back from 1998 and they were my faves! (sorry no pics)

I’m so glad I listened to myself and didn’t get rid of them like I get rid of everything else.

And my hats… I used to wear hats all the time up north.

I love hats and boots!

Why do I live in Florida you might be asking?

I ask myself that all the time too…

Here’s a little hat and boot parade for you. 😉 (these aren’t all of my boots either btw. I’m a bit of a bootholic!!)

yes, i really wore this hat. pink with feathers and all!

this was a fave

Fall fashion. Day 6

Another grey, cold and rainy day here in Beja, Portugal. (it’s ok really, we have had beautiful weather up until now)

We are going to Lisboa to pick Will up at the airport in a little while and we are super excited!!! (we have never been apart for this long)

My inspiration today is the painter Gustav Klimt. He is one of my favorite artists and when he painted he always wore a long smock.

My tunic isn’t necessarily long 😉 but, it reminds me of the painting smocks I used to wear in pre-school.

What I’m wearing: Knitted hat by Urban Outfitters, Earrings by Anthropologie, Tunic by some random Portuguese label, Shirt underneath by Forever 21 (31 😉 ), Tights by some other random Portuguese label, Bag by Zara, Booties by French Connection (they’re baaaaack!!!)

Fall fashion. Day 4

TIGHTS!!!!

How about that?

You get no stripes and no jeans/leggings from me today.

The temperature dropped a bit this morning so it was nice putting on warmer clothes.

You are getting a profile shot from me (it’s better than frontal anyway) because Lily slept horribly last night (she’s sick). Which meant that I slept horribly last night and have a tired face once again. (I don’t know about you winning Allie)

What I’m wearing: Knitted hat by Gap, Earrings (same as yesterday) are vintage, Long sweater cardigan by Zara, Dress/tunic by French Connection (it’s probably 6 years old but I still always wear it and love it), Tights (my faves, I love how they are cable knit and have colored specks) by Steve Madden and…. Booties by French Connection (yes, it’s the 4th day in a row that I’m wearing them. I might wear them the whole week! 😉 )

(Please vote for us here. Thank you!)
