We bought it for Lily way before she was even born and it was the blanket she came home from the birthing center in. It will always remind me of that day. It has also inspired me to want to do an owl themed room for her when we move and she will get her own room.
It was soft to begin with but it has only gotten softer with use and washing.
Since we slept at uncle Darren’s house last night and will again for the next 2 nights, I thought about how adaptable of a baby Lily is.
She is not even 3 months old and spent almost half of her life at her grandparents in West Virginia, has stayed at 2 hotels for 3 nights, went to Morgantown and slept over at her cousin Adelaide’s house for 2 nights, and now here we are at uncle Darren’s house for 3 nights.
For the most part she just chills during the day and at night sleeps relatively well.
I do however make sure that I always have a few of her toys and definitely her blankets. This way, she won’t feel like she is in a completely strange place.
Adaptability is something I think everyone should have. If you adapt well, most likely you make a good traveler. And traveling, I feel, is the best thing for someone’s growth and we LOVE to travel!
People often ask when we will pierce Lily’s ears and the answer is clear to me. We are not.
I remember quite clearly when I got my ears pierced. It was a memorable BIG girl moment for me.
I was 9 years old and had been asking my mom for a few months if she would let me get my ears pierced. After many well behaved moments and the fact that my mom saw that the request wasn’t going away, she took me to get my ears pierced.
I was so excited and nervous! But mostly excited because I was going to get to wear earrings. A passion that still exists today. If I buy jewelry, most likely they are earrings and I must have a pair on every day.
It is her body, and who knows…maybe it won’t be earrings but a belly piercing! Or tongue…..
Anyway, I would like Lily to make the same decision for herself and perhaps feel the same BIG girl moment I felt.
We have now tried the bottle with formula twice and both times were unsuccessful.
I got the Born Free bottles and Bright Beginnings organic milk based formula and it was a NO go! I don’t think it was so much the taste of the formula because she actually drank some of it, I think it’s the fact that she doesn’t know what to do with the silicone nipple. The same thing happened when we tried several pacifiers because my nipples needed a break.
The minute the silicone nipple goes in her mouth, her tongue rolls all around it, pushes against it, she just doesn’t know what to do with it. After minutes of me being persistent, she starts getting mad from frustration.
Now, some may argue that this is happening because we are only now trying to introduce the bottle to her however, we tried the pacifiers when she was only days old and the same thing happened. She just doesn’t like the silicone nipple! Can I blame her? The minute she was born, she was put on my breast and she latched on right away. My nipples are all she knows.
In a way I wish it was the formula she didn’t care for because her not liking the nipple means that it is pointless for me to pump. And therefore I am limited to how long I can stay away from her.
So in the meanwhile we will just breastfeed. Breastfeeding has gotten much easier now that we got through the first month. And since I am now a full time mom, I have all the time in the world to breastfeed. 🙂
Today was our first official beach day. Sure we have been to the beach for walks and to look at the ocean however, today we brought towels, the beach tent that was a gift from Katie and Jason, sunscreen (Lily wore BananaBoat Baby spf50), toys.
It’s winter here in Miami so the beach is windier and the ocean colder and rougher than usual but that didn’t keep us from having Lily dip her feet in the water.
She seemed to have enjoyed it. She should, I sure spent enough time at the beach and floating in the water when I was pregnant with her.
She looked around, slept in her tent, was breastfed. All without crying. She’s not much of a crier any way so I should say all without screaming.
We stayed for about an hour. All in all, I think we had a successful first day at the beach and hopefully many more to come!
