moon

Is it the moon?

What is going on?

It seems to me that every toddler is out of whack right now. (including Lily, she woke up at 6am and wouldn’t even nap!))

Every baby blog I read with toddlers the same age as Lily, the babies are sick, whinny, fussy, won’t sleep.

Several friends on Facebook with children the same age, also complain about sick and whinny babies.

What is going on?

Is it the full moon?

Lincoln Rd is our backyard

Despite my bad mood yesterday, we did go to the library in the morning and played on Lincoln Rd in the afternoon.

After all, my bad mood is not Lily’s fault.

Lincoln Rd often feels like our backyard.

It’s where we go when we want to get out of the house and I don’t feel like going to the park.

It’s only 2 blocks away and Lily loves watching everyone walk by.

A bike ride with birds and street food

It was such a beautiful afternoon out yesterday that Will and I decided to go on a family bike ride to the beach.

While riding, we saw all these seagulls going crazy over a bag of fritos that two guys were crinkling.

Of course we had to stop and let Lily out because she is crazy for birds.

It was awesome!

There were so many and they were flying so low.

Ocean Drive was having their Deco Walk Fair so we walked around and got some yummy street food for dinner.

It was a fun and spontaneous friday night!

Today Will has taken Lily out for the day and I’m going to attempt to paint. (I’m saying attempt because I’m scared that I won’t know how to paint since it has been 2 years)

Happy saturday everyone!!

My dearest Lily,

Bedtime with you at night has been so wonderful lately.

Already washed up and in your pajamas, you help clean up your toys while we sing “clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere…”

You have dinner.

You kiss pai goodnight.

We go into the bedroom and lie on our bed.

You lean against two big pillows, I lean against the other two big pillows next to you and we read two books.

We read Goodnight moon and The going to bed book.

After we read the books, we turn off the lights and go to the window where we say goodnight to the moon, the trees, the lights and mama.

When I say “goodnight mama”, you give me a kiss.

I then turn on your night music and we hug and slow dance for a bit.

You then point towards your crib and I lay you down.

I stay next to you for a bit until you fall asleep.

It has become so easy and wonderful.

It might change but I hope not.

You are so wonderful.

Love you,

mama

Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving yesterday.

Despite us not being with family and having some dear friends away, we had a great holiday.

We collaborated with our next door neighbors.

He’s a chef so he cooked 2 turkeys, mashed potatoes, broccoli, baked fresh organic bread.

I made the stuffing Portuguese style this year (it’s called migas in Portuguese which is basically fried stuffing) as well as organic cranberry sauce.

It was my first time making the stuffing this way.

As a child, I watched my great grand mother make it at least once a week.

It turned out awesome!

Lily enjoyed herself by playing with all the adults and cat at the party and eating all the delicious food.

Happy black friday everyone! Happy shopping and have a great weekend!

The weekend

I hope you all had a great weekend.

It was a good and mellow one here. (still trying to recover from our month in Portugal and our trip back)

Our weekend started friday with AMW’s 1st birthday party. We know AMW through the library.

Her party was at the beautiful Emanu-El Temple near our house.

There was arts and crafts, lots of toys and kids for Lily to play with and there was sing along also! (even though it was in Hebrew, that didn’t stop Lily from dancing!)

Both Lily and I had a great time.

On our ride home, we stopped off to look at my favorite Christmas tree.

I don’t really know why it’s my favorite tree.

There is nothing really special about it, really. It is mostly lights.

I think the reason I like it so much is because through the years that I was working, on the way home, I would ride past it and it would just give me a warm Christmas feeling.

It was the first real time that Lily saw a Christmas tree. (last year doesn’t really count since she was not even 2 months old)

She was fascinated by all the lights.

Saturday night we went out to dinner and stared at the beautiful full moon.

Did everyone have a chance to see her? She has been just amazing lately.

On sunday, while I did some things around the house, Will took Lily to the beach.

It had been a little over a month since she had been there and even though the water is definitely colder, you know her, she had to get in it.

She can now walk herself to the water. Watch out!!

Hope you all have a great week.

Happy monday!!! 🙂 (can’t believe Thanksgiving is this thursday)

getting crafty with it

A night story

I went out with my brother, my cousin Vitor and his cousin Antonio last night.

It was a beautiful night out.

The moon was almost full.

The sky was clear.

The air was crisp.

We hit a couple of small places in town and it was wonderful to be out and about somewhere different, walking on the old cobbled stone streets surrounded by so much old architecture.

When I returned home, as I sat in the kitchen eating some buttered toast, I looked around and tried to find anything that connected me to this house.

I never lived in this house.

Other than my parents, there is nothing in it that makes me call it “home”.

Then I looked up at the chimney and there they were.

The nun and monk salt and pepper shakers.

I finally found something that I remember having around as a child.

It made me smile. 🙂

It was a good night.

Must have of the day

PATIENCE!!!!

Lily is feisty, short tempered, testing her vocals, teething and the moon is in Scorpio!!!

Wish me luck.

Here she is with some strong looks on her face. One that says: “What this foot? What are you going to do about it mommy?”. And the other that says: “I know you asked me to put my foot down a thousand times but here it is again. I’m just testing you mommy….”.
