Before the snow covers everything around here, saturday morning I took a walk and took some pictures of a very different landscape to me.
I’m used to seeing this place all green and plush in August or completely covered with snow in December.
As I walked, flurries started to come down. There was nothing but the quiet of winter.
It’s a magical time of year.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, we sure did. I have lots of pictures to share with you.

Ever since I can remember I have enjoyed nature photography.
However, since coming to West Virginia, my passion for nature photography has grown.
There is so much nature around here, all sorts of trees, leaves, flowers, mushrooms, frogs, grasshoppers…
Taking pictures from the ground view has become my newest obsession.
It’s like looking at nature from a whole different perspective.
I took some of these the other day and some this morning, both under a cloudy sky.

How is everyone doing this fine monday?
I hope that you east coasters were all safe from Irene, all we got was some rain here in West Virginia.
Yesterday, Will, Lily and I took a scenic drive.
We stopped off in Marlington where we ate some deep fried southern food at the Greenbrier, we went to the Cranberry visitor’s center and checked out all the wild life that lives around here and we went on a nature walk.
It was a chill sunday.
70 and perfect

We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day yesterday. (you will see by ALL the pics)
The Fairchild Botanical Garden was free admission and that is exactly where we spent the whole day.
Surrounded by the most beautiful nature all around.
There were food trucks, art/craft tables for kids, a Japanese wishing tree, we rolled on the grass, smelled the flowers, hugged the trees and Lily even got to drum in her very first drum circle.
Happy Earth day mother Earth!

Lily is truly a nature girl.
I’m not sure if I have written about this (I think I have…) but, when I was pregnant, Will and I would joke about how we would not buy Lily any toys. (and we really don’t)
That Lily would just have to entertain herself with sticks and stones. LOL
Well, sticks and stones are no problem for her.
Actually, she loves sticks and stones.
At a playground full of swings and slides, Lily will just sit in the sand and play with it for a long while.
Or she will walk away and go towards the grass where she can find sticks and leaves.
She loves nature best.
I love that about her. ( I hope she stays that way)

Today’s artist is one of my favorite artists and you all know her.
I’m talking about Mother Nature.
I miss West Virginia and all the nature that surrounded me when we were there.
I miss the cool and dewy mornings, I miss the flowers, the butterflies, the fresh mountain air…
Here are some pictures from one of my nature walks when we were there in august.
Don’t you just love nature?
(Show us some love by clicking

Before Lily was born, Will and I would joke about not buying any toys for her (because we hate most of the toys out there) and how she would just play with sticks and stones.
Well, she has turned out to be just that kid! (for now anyway)
No matter what toy we bring for her to play outside with, she much prefers to explore nature and play with rocks, sticks, grass, dirt, bugs.
She must have been listening after all…. 😉

Just browsing through
Inhabitots again, I found these great Green Start children’s books from Innovative Kids.
Books that help give children an awareness of the natural world? A “Must”!

I dream of a house with a yard. To plant, to explore all that nature has to offer…..
I think Lily dreams of one too. 😉
In the meanwhile, we will continue to explore our little “backyard” (the small area surrounding the pool in our building).
Here are some wonderful little curly vines that were hidden underneath the leaves in one of the bushes around the pool.

Lily LOVES to be outside and she loves nature.
She loves flowers, the ocean, she LOVES trees and watching their leaves blow in the wind. 🙂
