Sweet home welcomings

I think it goes without saying how wonderful it was to be reunited with Will and with our friends again here at home in Miami.

But, you know what awaits you when you return from vacation.

Yup, a huge pile of mail.

Junk mail, magazines, bills, bills, bills….

This time around however, I had not one but two sweet packages waiting for me.

Well, one was for Lily and the other was for me and Lily.

Our sweet friends Holly and Ariel from Mimosa sent Lily this shirt and Rachel the sweetest and most thoughtful blogger from Hi Happy Panda sent me sea glass that she found in Marblehead, MA in a hand sewn pouch along with a happy panda.

Thank you ladies for your kindness and a warm welcome home. 🙂

if you don’t know Mimosa, head over right now!

Mamas & their babies

Welcome to the very first West Virginia mamas&their babies segment!

I would like to share with you my friend Rachel and her baby girl Zara.

I first met Rachel in 2007 on my first visit here to West Virginia and like most of the people I met, she was friendly and welcoming.

Because we don’t live here, Rachel and I only get to see each other a few times a year.

Enough for me to know that even though a bit reserved at first, Rachel is one smart, funny and witty mama.

Love, a drawing challenge

I am joining Rachel at Hi Happy Panda with her weekly drawing challenges to not only make me motivated to draw more but, to also give me an opportunity to visit some of my old art work.

Since I decided to join late in the week I am entering an older drawing due to the lack of time to produce a new one.

This drawing was done in January of 2007 on paper with a color pencil.

Sometimes with LOVE comes heart ache and after a few years of being divorced from a previous marriage, I was finally ready to “Let it go”.

I based this drawing on a black and white photo that my friend Jackie took of me at her apartment in NYC back in 1994-95.

I think it’s by far one of my favorite self portraits.
