summer

#mamaandlilianfollybeachtrip2020

it’s saturday morning and i’m writing this post in bed while sipping coffee

it’s quiet

Lilian is at William’s for the week

this will be our second time sharing her this way since she and i moved into our casa azul

our life is different these days

the same in many ways but different

it’s been a while since i have come here to share anything other than project fifty two posts

and i am not sure if this morning is the time to share the emotions of going through a separation and having to start over again on my own

this morning i mostly just want to share pictures from our week at folly beach during the first week of back to school

summer was certainly different this year

for everyone i guess

i’m thankful that we were able to get some beach time

it had been since february since i/we had seen the ocean

the beach is still where i feel my best and where i feel we are our happiest

until next time. hopefully sooner than later

around here

haven’t come here in a while to share what we have been up to lately

there have been creeks, swimming holes, pools, neighborhood quarantine hangs but most importantly, mine and Lily’s move into our new west asheville home

the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one is always bitter sweet and i am just trying to not get overwhelmed and just take everything one day at a time

Lily is being super helpful during this move/transition and although she seems on the upside of things, i know it has to be hard for her

both William and i have reached out to recommended child therapist in order to provide her with a neutral space to share her feelings and thoughts but have had no luck booking one because none of them are taking new patients at this covid time

in the meanwhile all we can do is move forward and keep an eye on her and talk about all that we are feeling/thinking

it feels like the most non-summer summer ever but, one day at a time right?

happy friday and happy weekend friends

around here

i’ve been trying to not think about all the canceled summer travels we had planned for this summer as well as trying to not be too nostalgic about previous summer travels

instead, i’ve been trying to be present in the silver linings of the situation we are all in

this will be our longest asheville summer yet and we are trying to find our way through it

some days are easier

some days are harder…

happy friday friends

i started going on morning walks again and i can honestly say that flowers are my biggest motivation and inspiration to keep doing so

an afternoon spent downtown asheville

an afternoon spent at the arboretum to check out the lego exhibit

an afternoon swimming with friends. this will be most of what our summer will look like since we bought a swimming membership at a local pool

#mamaandlilycrystalrivervacay

spring break in miami was canceled

two weeks in portugal with my family in early june was also canceled

so before summer is over and school starts again, Lily and i drove down to inverness florida where we quarantined at a house with a pool with our K

why crystal river area?

well, i have been curious about that area and wanting to visit three sisters springs for quite some time

i also didn’t want a drive longer than 9-10 hours

our airbnb in inverness was exactly what we had hoped it would be

maybe even better

a great house in a super quiet neighborhood with a screened in pool and big lanai

we spent most of our time at home in the pool however, we did get to venture out to three sisters (beautiful), went out to eat a few times and checked out a local produce market

it was the perfect quiet and relaxing getaway

happy friday friends

ps- i love this post so much because it’s filled with all the miami pool blue and it’s been a long time since it has had any of that color/feeling and it’s still the best and the one i love the most

waking up in inverness was the total opposite of waking up in asheville. it was quiet

three sisters springs

around here

one month into the new school year, it is now dark when we wake in the morning

after a month of ninety degree heat, this week we finally got a break and the temperatures dropped to the seventies

autumn is right around the corner and i welcome the change

the cooler temperatures feel good and so does the new golden light

happy friday friends!

i always think i keep up with what’s around here and then i look to see when the last post was and… well, it’s been a while

i still have so many summer break pictures to share

monument valley, grand canyon, sedona, vegas, panama city beach….

but as much as i’d like to stay in vacation mode, life just keeps moving forward

these days faster than ever before

at the end of this month summer will be over and it will officially be fall

i enjoy fall

but i dread what comes after it

it will also be four years since we moved from miami to asheville

four years!

it’s hard for me to believe it’s been that long

i still miss our miami life in the red house with the pool and our dear friends near

perhaps i don’t miss miami as much as i miss us in miami

and regardless of how good life is here, how great the house we live in is (we have paid our price) and how many friends we have, i still feel landlocked, like i don’t belong and want to head towards the ocean just about daily

asheville makes me feel the loneliest i have ever felt

it’s a feeling i can’t seem to shake off

even after four years

thanks for listening friends

hope you are all having a good week so far

flowers, flowers and more flowers. i don’t think i could (or would want to) live in a world without flowers. which makes winter harder than it already is

bandelier national monument

i am writing this post from a couch in panama city beach overlooking the ocean

Lily and i have been here for almost a week (sadly today is our last full day here)

being on the beach has been the best soul filling way to end this summer break

we miss William and wish he was here but understand that he doesn’t care for the beach the way we do

that said, we are thankful for the opportunity to be here

it’s after 9am and Lily is still sleeping

it has been that kind of summer but it will soon (too soon) be over when she starts 4th grade next monday

we have had a wonderful summer

two weeks at home, one week in the mountains of west virginia, two weeks in the desert of new mexico, arizona, utah and nevada, two weeks at home and one week at the beach

a little bit of everything

beach was a last minute add on but a must

for me it is not summer without beach time (it’s just the way i was raised. beach=summer)

while in santa fe, we drove out to see bandelier national monument

the 33,677 acre monument preserves the homes and territory of the ancestral puebloans of a later era in the southwest

most of the pueblo structures date to two eras, dating between 1150 and 1600ad

being there was a surreal experience to say the least and a once in a lifetime experience we will forever remember

if you would like to read more about it, please do so here
