Cousins galore… small style

Yesterday Lily was reunited with her cousins Sofia, Sebastiao, Luis and Kiko at my tia Tete’s house.

These are of course her second cousins or shall I say first cousins once removed? I always get confused how that goes.

Anyway, Sofia and Sebastiao are my first cousin Lena’s kids.

Luis and Kiko are my aunt’s kids.

We also met Constanca and Salvador (not pictured) for the first time who are my cousin Ze Maria’s kids. (I had not seen Ze Maria since I was a little girl…)

There were some other cousins missing and we wished they had been there but, the ones who were there get along great!

A Bryan Ferry kinda night

Bryan Ferry performed here on thursday night.

Unfortunately none of us got it together and got tickets but, we had a Bryan Ferry and 80’s music dance-athon at Darren’s house.

It was a super fun night!

Here are some cell pics of what I wore. (sorry no pics of us dancing. i was having too much fun 🙂 )

P.S.- Can I just also say that every time I put on a pair of ripped whatever, I am always reminded of my late grandfather who when I was 16 tried to give me money so I could go buy some pants with no holes. It’s funny how some things always stay with you…

Tiny apple… small style

One of Lily’s favorite things to do when we go for walks around here is to stop by the apple tree and pick a “tiny apple” to eat.

It’s something we do almost daily and something I will miss doing with her.

This is our last small style post here in West Virginia, we will be leaving on saturday.

We have had a wonderful month and will miss this place madly.

The two outfits below are my favorites from last week.

Elmo!… small style

Although Elmo rode in the car with Lily from Miami to West Virginia and he hung out for a few days in the library/play room when we first got here, he had been forgotten about in Lily’s crib.

Until last week that is.

Out of nowhere Lily looked at me and said “Elmo?”.

We went to grab him from the crib, she put him in a doll’s stroller cousin Adelaide left behind and wheeled him outside to meet Lola.

It’s nice to see that even though Lily is surrounded by new friends, she doesn’t forget her old ones. 😉

West Virginia… small style

The weather here in west Virginia has been great!

It’s chilly in the morning and at night and in the 70’s during the day.

Lily has been comfortably wearing light weight long sleeved shirts and closed toe shoes.

Here she is in the library/play room and outside playing with two of her favorite dogs, Lola and Sophie.

21 months and rockin’ her moccasins… small style

Lily turned 21 months old on sunday.

Seriously, I cannot believe she will be 2 years old in 3 months.

She is quite the busy and talkative little chick these days. (Will and I are in constant disbelief of all the words she says daily both in English and Portuguese)

Aside from all the words she knows, she is starting to put 4 and more words together in order to create sentences.

She will say things like:

“mommy. sit. book. reading” (mommy let’s read a book)

“piu piu. wings. fly” (birds fly with wings)

She has quite the Portenglish vocabulary going on. lol

She knows practically all the colors now and compares them to her favorite Sesame Street characters.

She will say:

“pink. purple. Abby”

“orange. Ernie”

“lellow. Bert”

“brown. Snuffy”

“Elmo.” (red)

“gueen. Oscas”

She continues to love books the most but also really enjoys her crayons, markers and coloring books.

We think she’s a keeper. 😉

Birds of a feather, flock together

After lounging at home for a while, yesterday late afternoon even though it was raining, we decided to go for a drive to Coconut Grove and maybe eat somewhere we had never been.

I got lily dressed first and after I dressed myself, I realized that I dressed myself like her.

Or did I dress her like me?

Either way, we had the same look going on.

Before heading out, I asked Will to take our picture and while he was doing so, I noticed he had birds on his belt.

“Birds of a feather, flock together” I thought to myself.

The three of us seemed to all have something that went with the other. 🙂

With Yelp’s help (do you guys ever use it? we love it!), we ended up eating at the Peacock Garden Cafe. (perfect but not planned for our bird theme).

It was lovely to be able to sit outside under a big awning looking and listening to the rain and thunderstorms.

Once it cleared up, a rainbow appeared and the sky looked the most beautiful I have seen it in a while.

Hope you all had a great saturday as well.

A girl date

Wednesday night I had a dinner and movie date with auntie K.

I left Will and Lily playing in the pool and auntie K and I headed over to Books&Books for dinner and then to the movies to see The Tree of Life.

The food at Books&Books was great as always (love that place) but the movie???

I feel like I didn’t get what I wanted.

Don’t get me wrong, I love artsy flicks more than your average person but, I feel like The Tree of Life was trying too hard. (as well as having too much science/discovery channel scenes)

I also feel like every movie I have watched lately has no ending and I’m tired of “make up your own ending” kind of movies.

Have any of you seen The Tree of Life?

What did you think?

No slave to fashion

Last friday I joined auntie K and some of her co-workers for happy hour at Doraku.

I decided to wear one of my favorite Zara pants.

I purchased them in 2009 when I was pregnant with Lily, wore them throughout my pregnancy and I still wear them all the time.

I read in either Elle or Bazaar that harem pants should be “stored away”.

You know what though?

I can’t store them away.

I love my harem military pants and no matter what fashion says, I will continue on wearing them.

Do you have items like that?

Items that you love so much that even though fashion says “store away” you can’t?

A week in small style

Do you ever feel like dressing your little one rather than yourself?

I think this past week was like that for me.

I have been feeling tired and like I look horrible.

AND… kids clothes for the most part are often so much less expensive than adult clothes that it’s just easier to get Lily dressed than myself.

Here is a week of Lily’s small style.

What do you think?

Do you have a favorite?

And as always I’m linking this to Mama loves Papa.
