Zura

Mamas & their babies

I met Zura and Lien at the Miami Beach Library for story telling time almost 1 year ago.

We started talking, hit it off and made plans for future outings right away.

Whenever we get together, I’m guaranteed a good time.

Zura and I share common interests in art, movies, nature, photography (Zura is a great photographer).

She is a Mexican soul sister. ๐Ÿ˜‰

19 years closer

We had a great turn out at our full moon beach picnic last night.

It was just wonderful being around friends while watching the moon rise from the ocean.

I hadn’t done that in forever and one thing about Miami, we get beautiful moons here.

How about you?

Did any of you do anything special for the “special” moon last night?

P.S.- 2 more things:

1- Will and I are totally loving our camera. We took turns taking pictures last night. (Zura also took some too!)

2- We had such a great time being surrounded by so many wonderful friends and the ocean that when we got home, we started looking at Miami listings again…..

Library wednesday

Yesterday was our first day back to the library after not having gone for a month and oh boy was Lily happy to be there!!

We arrived a bit early (fast bike ride) so she got to chill and look at some books by herself for a little while.

Once class started and everyone circled around the rug, she had the face of “oh, I remember this…”

Our friend Zura was also there with Lien and it was great seeing the both of them after not having seen them for such a long time.

Lien has also grown so much!

We missed the library…

(Please vote for us here. Thank you!)

so happy to be surrounded by books

Meet-up thursday

Today we met up at the beach with a Miami Meet-up group. We had met up with them once before at the organic Earth N Us farm.

Claudia, Zura and I had been meeting up on thursdays at the beach on our own but we decided to join the meet-up group today and we were all glad that we did.

We got to meet more moms and the girls (Lily, Lien and Sofia) got to meet other kids. Older kids, who Lily loves to watch!

We all swam with the girls, Lily got to make some sand castles with a 6 year old girl, it was another lovely morning at the beach.

We will be meeting up again next thursday!

On the flip side

After having felt completely run down both physically and emotionally and having written about it (so thankful for that and all the wonderful support I received), I have decided to flip things around and focus on the wonderful things that I have instead of what I don’t have. ๐Ÿ™‚

So what if we don’t have the 3 bedroom house of our dreams with a yard? We have a wonderful 1 bedroom apartment where we have had wonderful times and will have wonderful memories when we one day leave.

This apartment is the only home Lily knows. It’s where we brought her the day she was born. It’s from here that we walk down the street and go to the beach within a 30 minute walk. It’s from here that we make a left at the end of the block and meet Claudia and Sofia for wonderful afternoons at the park.

So what if I don’t have the freedom I once had? I have a wonderful husband (I la-la love you Will) and a beautiful and healthy baby Lily (I love you Lily).

I have wonderful old friends close and far and I now have new wonderful mommy friends as well (thank you Claudia, Zura and Sherrie).

Even though our families are far (in West Virginia and in Portugal), they are wonderful and I am so lucky to have them! And most importantly, everyone is healthy.

I am so fortunate and blessed to be able to stay home with Lily. (thank you Will!) It is the most wonderful and challenging job in the world but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Anything!

Being able to be a full time mom is an opportunity of a lifetime. It may never happen again. It may only happen once. There are a many changes to go through along the way both emotional and physical but I truly believe that the woman in me was not born until the day that Lily was born. I may have thought of myself a woman then, but I was not.

With all this around me, I lately cannot stop hearing these words playing in my head: “…and I think to myself what a wonderful world…” (thank you Louis Armstrong)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
and I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
the bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
and I think to myself, what a wonderful world

the colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, saying, “How do you do?”
they’re really saying, “I love you”

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
they’ll learn much more, than I’ll ever know
and I think to myself, what a wonderful world
yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

And on that note, have a great weekend everyone!

Must have of the day

More mornings at the beach like the one we had today with Claudia, Sofia, Zura and Lien. (Sherrie and McCoy you were missed)

All 3 girls had some diaper free bottom time, they were in the water (it was Lien’s first time, picture #2), they played (picture #4), they ate, they napped (Lien, picture #5), everyone got to get to know each other better (Zura and Lily, picture #6) and there was even time for some baby free mommy swimming time (Zura and Claudia, picture #7).

and a SHOUT OUT to…

our wonderful friends Claudia and Sofia and our new friends Sherrie with McCoy and Zura with Lien for all the worrying and the care they took for Lily.

Thank you wonderful mommies and babies for all the love!!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

Here are Claudia with Sofia, Sherrie with McCoy andร‚ย  Zura with Lien at the farm today.

First official field trip

Today we went on a field trip to a wonderful organic farm right here in Miami called The Earth N Us.

Claudia and Sofia picked Lily and I up, and we met up at the farm with our new friends that we met at the library, Sherrie with McCoy and Zura with Lien.

The farm is hidden in Little Haiti and what a little gem it is!

We saw chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, ostriches. I think the chickens were Lily’s favorites.

There were beautiful flowers, fruit trees, trees in full bloom. It felt like we were elsewhere.

We were all having tons of fun and then out of nowhere, Lily started feeling not so well. She started vomiting non stop.

Instead of coming straight home, Claudia took us to Lily’s pediatrician first. Dr. Salinas checked Lily over and after making sure that she didn’t have a fever or anything too serious, we came back home.

I think Lily was vomiting as a side effect of the shots she had yesterday.

It was a tough afternoon for us. Lily continued on not feeling well and Will and I continued on worrying and wishing we were the ones not feeling well.

After Pedialyte and a bit of rice cereal that didn’t stay down, breast feeding went well and the milk didn’t come back up.

A much better Lily is now sleeping and hopefully she will feel all better tomorrow.

Here are some fun shots of our trip to the organic farm. Lily wears a romper by babyGap.
